This Balboa Park newborn sleepy girl was such a delight to photograph. Yes, she slept the entire time but that’s just who she is right now. The parent’s lived in beautiful modern home and the mama clearly had a knack for interior design. I loved their bay windows at the front of the house. It brought in so much ambient light. The fog rolled in by the time we started their newborn shoot but with those big windows it didn’t matter.
This sweet newborn girl had such a cute nursery too. I loved the tree and bird wallpaper and the modern wooden crib. It was simple and so thoughtful. There were also accept pieces in the room themed around feminism. Girl power! Can’t start empowering girls too early these days. I just loved it.
The new parents were very laidback. I remember when I brought up something I had watched on TV the dad joked saying that maybe they should start watching more TV. I chuckled because I remember those days back when my own little boy was a newborn. We became completely disconnected from media – no time for that!
I always tell parents I have no expectations of their newborn during the shoot. I’m completely thrilled if they’re sleeping, awake or both (and everything in between). This little newborn girl slept so much that the parents were hoping she might open her eyes for a few shots. At the end of the shoot I said ok, if you really want photos of her awake go ahead and rouse her. Welp, all she did was whine and cry – and she didn’t even open her eyes while doing that haha. That’s a first lesson in parenting – your kids are who they are and will do what the want.
