I woke-up my son super early one morning to take photos off of a pier in the Dogpatch neighborhood of San Francisco during sunrise. That’s totally normal, right? It was a little chilly, but he didn’t seem to mind too much and we kept it short and sweet. The joys of being the son of a San Francisco family photographer. 🙂
I wanted to take these photos because my baby boy is about to turn two at the end of this month. My sensitive and loving little boy is the best thing to ever happen to me. I feel overwhelmed with gratitude that I lucked out with such a precious and sweet boy.
For his photos, I wanted to take a couple to use for his upcoming party and document his toddler self. I had gone location scouting around Potrero Hill and knew I wanted to photograph him shirtless wearing his pants rolled up with lots of soft light. I felt like it was a perfect representation of who he is right now. Soft, sensitive and sweet. Why shirtless you ask? Because in a year he’ll be bigger. And the year after that even bigger. I wanted to capture his cute little self and body so I can remember how tiny he was before he’s not anymore.
A mom friend down the block told me about a public pier in the Dogpatch and I had a feeling it would be perfect for his photos. With the sun rising from the east, I knew this would make for a perfect backdrop. Which meant I had to wake up my little guy super early in the morning to get to the location during the morning golden hour. It was splendid. Plus our pup Taz got to sniff around in new territory and leave her mark. She was a happy little girl too.
Here are a few of my favorites, enjoy!
