A beautiful maternity session at San Francisco’s Sutro Baths on a windy and freezing evening was pure bliss. Despite the goosebumps and numb fingers and toes this mama turned it out!
The waves were high and choppy because of how windy it was, but I just love the way it looks against the calm waters in the baths. Similar to pregnancy, these images are the perfect expression of the calm before the storm. And the storm being an adorable newborn baby! Sounds like the perfect storm to me. 🙂
A little about this mom. She’s a seasoned veteran when it comes childrearing. This will be her third baby and first boy. They are all really excited to be welcoming baby boy to world in just a few short weeks. If you find me gushing about how beautiful she is and her family I might be a bit biased because this is my brother and his wife and children. I know, they’re an awfully good looking crew.
When we arrived to the baths, I took one look down the trail and said, ‘Nope, we’re not going down there. Let’s shoot in this nature area.’ But mama insisted she could trek down a pretty steep hill. We never really considered how she’d get back up. But let’s say, when she was walking up the stairs she received a lot of sympathy looks from passerby’s. I now know why you don’t see many maternity portraits at the Sutro Baths – it’s a bitch of a steep hill for only the bravest soul. If she wasn’t my sister-in-law I might have had her sign an extra liability waiver – just sayin’. 🙂 That all said, it was SO worth every step down and up the hill for these photos. The girls ran off exploring while mama and her husband walked the divider between the mad ocean and calm baths. Theses are photos I know they’ll cherish and such a special way to celebrate and remember their last pregnancy.
Can’t wait to get my hands on my baby nephew!
