It feels like it was just weeks ago that I took maternity portraits of this gorgeous mama and her belly. But here I was, photographing the newest addition to the family, newborn Sonny.
I arrived to their home in Mill Valley excited to meet older sister Ruby and the dad for the first time – well, them and Sonny. But Sonny had just made his big debut about a week ago. Ruby is just under two and is a fun, spunky little girl. She showed me her art room and toys and of course her baby brother. They were wearing matching pajamas. Onesie for Sonny and leggings and a long-sleeved top for Ruby. It was insta-heart melt when I saw them together.
But this family isn’t complete without their two Bernese Mountain dogs, Biggie and Lucy. These dogs are massive. They don’t just photobomb a moment, they literally ransack it. Good thing these gentle beasts only move for treats or the promise of cuddles. I love the moment captured when Biggie was softly sniffing Sonny’s head. Even with dad securely holding Sonny in his arms, baby still looks so tiny compared to Biggie.
I think many families spend lots of time in their bedrooms with the kids. Snuggling together, playing hide-and-seek under the covers with the children and jumping on the bed (duh!). It’s one of my favorite places to photograph families permitting light. I loved how conformable Ruby was on the bed with her family. They all looked connected and relaxed together. Some of my favorite family photos of this crew.
