When I’m not photographing maternity clients, I will sometimes photograph models. This particular shoot was hosted in Yountville and styled in a vintage, old-world theme. I walked around the premiss of the location and found this really gorgeous area. I knew that if I shot wide open (small aperture) the leaves in the background would look like feathers or spots painted on a canvas. And after a single frame, I was in heaven loving it. I also loved the muted and monotone colors of the model’s gown with the background.
The stylist changed the model’s outfit and handed her a big piece of vintage lace. I knew I wanted to shoot two poses with the lace. One with her looking through it and the other of her floating it in the wind. I instructed the model to arch her back as far as it would go and to keep her body towards the sun. She nearly did a backbend for me! I just loved the way the light hit her face and chest. It’s no easy task being a model, that’s for sure.
